What Size Mattress to Buy?
There are several mattress sizes out there on the market, but the sizes you need for your home ultimately depend on your personal preference and your intended purpose. A Twin mattress is a great option for small kids to grow into their teens. If your child needs more length opt for a Twin XL, which is the standard mattress size for college dorms. This bed size is also a great option for single adults who have a smaller, cramped room. A Full mattress is wider than a Twin but smaller than a Queen, making it ideal for single adults or a couple that doesn’t mind snuggling up during the night. The Queen size mattress is the most popular size since it’s perfect for both single adults and couples to sprawl and sleep in. Coming in with an additional 16 inches of width is the King. This mattress is the same height as a queen but provides plenty of space for sleeping, watching movies and cuddling with your fur babies. Most people think a California King is widest mattress you can buy, but in reality it’s four inches shorter. But what it lacks for in width, it makes up in height with an additional four inches in length compared to a standard King — perfect for taller individuals.

What are the main mattress types?

  • 01.

    Inner Springs

Many people are familiar with inner spring mattresses since they are one of the oldest and most common materials for mattresses to be made from. These mattresses use carefully designed metal coils surrounded by soft padding to support the entire body while you sleep.

  • 02.

    Memory Foam

Memory foam mattresses have become more popular in the past two decades and are now available in a range of comfort types, from soft to firm. Memory foam molds to the shape of your body and will give you the sensation of sinking into the mattress. Memory foam contours to the body to allow for relief of pressure points on the body and have multiple layers of foam for support and comfort.

  • 03.

    Pillow Top

Pillowtop mattresses are typically innerspring mattresses with a thick layer of padding added to the top. This combination gives the mattress a solid base with a soft top layer. The pillowtop layer may be made from materials like wool, cotton or down or even memory foam or latex foam, so you have lots of options with this type of mattress.

  • 04.

    Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses combine the best of a memory foam mattress and a traditional innerspring mattress. Hybrids have great support from the innersprings along with the pressure-relief from the memory foam. If you’re mattress shopping with a partner, a hybrid mattress can be a great compromise that combines two popular mattress types.
